Welcome to Miles of Writing!
As far as the eye can see! (Yes, that’s the whole joke)
My name is Miles MacNaughton. I’ve been writing since I was seven years old. I wasted the first six years of my life.
As I grew as a writer, I started to veer away from the concise, sparse, show-don’t-tell style that’s so common these days. Now I enjoy colorful, textured prose. I like writing that is descriptive, fluid, and leaves a distinct impression.
The backbone of my work is the relationships between people: how they change, fall apart, and are brought back together. Strong, powerful emotions are my cornerstones. Other themes I often revisit include unrequited love, social dissociation, national/ethnic self-identity and belonging, and absurdity.
I’ve written literary, fantasy, horror, science fiction, romance, adventure, comedy, and historical fiction. I love writing in any genre or style; why limit yourself to one?
So Why Subscribe?
Good question! Here are three reasons.
I will publish a new flash fiction, poem, short story every weekend, usually Saturday at 10AM EST.
Once every few weeks I will publish a non-fiction essay on a topic related to the writing craft. This might be a meta essay or directly relatable to writing itself.
I will actively work with and promote other writing that I find enjoyable. If you’re a voracious reader, this is the place to be!
Your subscription also helps me build an audience to reach with my work. I plan on publishing novels very soon and I want them to reach as many excited readers as they can. I could use your help to be a success!
What About Paid Subscribers?
Paid subscribers get all of the above. In addition, after I go paid, I will begin to archive old works, and those will always be accessible to paid subscribers.
Paid subscriptions also help me get closer in my effort to do my writing full time. That’s been a long dream of mine, and one I think I can achieve with your support. So, thank you!

Words that are so rare they’re nearly extinct
Would that I had words that are unknown, utterances and sayings in a new language, that hath not yet passed away, and without that which hath been said repeatedly — not an utterance that hath grown stale, what the ancestors have already said.

—Khekheperre-Sonbu, scribe, lamenting that everything he wishes to write has already been said.
